Lodin Alta

Malga Lodin Alta is active in the intermediate grazing period. The early and late grazing takes place in Malga Ramaz. It is located on the southern slopes of Monte Lodin, which is characterized by rocks dating from the Silurian period. These rock formations of marine origins contain several fossils of invertebrates, such as those of shelled cephalopods. Corals are often found here.

And then...

The mountain hut lies along the "Traversata Carnica" and "Carnia Trekking" trails. From the farm you climb up to the Lodinut pass (CAI trail no. 457), then, continuing left (CAI trail no. 403), you reach the Zollner See in Austria, then you climb your way to the nearby Passo Pecol di Chiaula and descend to the Pietro Fabiani shelter (CAI trail no. 454), closing the ring to the road travelled up from the Lodin Alta hut.

From an environmental and natural perspective, the spectacular Salino waterfall and the Forra di Las Callas gorge, going up the Chiarsò torrent, are worth mentioning.

In the small town of Paularo, you can see some famous palaces, such as Palazzo Valesio-Calice (1591), Palazzo Calice-Screm-Gerometta (16th century, the prototype of Carnic houses), Palazzo Fabiani-Linussio (17th century, Linussio's abode, where Giosuè Carducci slept), Palazzo della Canonica (1674), Casa Tarussio (Côrt di Tarùsc) (17th century, a typical traditional dwelling with wooden works by Sbrizzai and other carvers), Palazzo Morocutti (1631), and the Mozartina – a small music museum with a refined collection of old instruments.

The local worship buildings are also worth seeing:

The parish church of (patron saints) Vito, Modesto e Crescenzia (1750), frescoed with an absolute masterpiece by painter Antonio Schiavi and with a wonderful crucifix, with the baptistery from the 16th century and the organ dated 1764;

the church of Santa Maria Maggiore (1300), with a splendid wooden altar from 1522;

the church of San Giovanni Battista (1400);

the church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria Martire (1400), with an ancient medieval belfry and an altar dating from the 17th century;

the deconsecrated church of Sant'Antonio (1674);
The Cappella dei santi Fabiano e Sebastiano (1688);

the church of San Pietro (1715), with a precious painting depicting Saint Peter attributed to Nicola Grassi;

The Sacello di Santa Maria di Loreto (1745), a rare example of architecture with an octagonal base;

The Santuario di Maria SS. Ausiliatrice del Monte Castoia (1870) with frescoes by Giacomo Monai from Nimis and the legendary stone with the image of the Madonna with Child Jesus engraved on it.

In Piazza Julia you can see the monument built by Giobatta Segalla honouring all Fallen and Missing, both soldiers and civilians, from Paularo, in the wars of 1911/1912 - 1935/1936 - 1940/1945.

The relics of a Celtic necropolis have lately been found in Misincinis.
