Zoufplan Bassa

At the Zoufplan lakes outcrops of effusive volcanic rocks can easily be spotted. On Monte Zoupflan the regional Civil Defence service built a "football"-shaped building housing a weather radar and the equipment needed to detect seismic movements. In Cercivento, before taking the road leading to the production unit, you can visit the "farie di Checo", a factory dating back to the 15th century, which was refurbished in 1966 after a flood. Inside, the entire iron processing cycle is perfectly reconstructed, with all the hydraulic contraptions working, the blacksmith's tools and instruments, and an exhibition of his products. In Paluzza, in an area called Enfretors, you can see the Moscarda tower dating from the 13th century, an ancient bastion of the efficient customs defensive system named "Castrum Moscardum". In Timau the "Fontanon”, a gorgeous perennial karst spring and the banned wood can be seen from the SS 52-bis road. The church of Cristo Re, which is particularly interesting for historical and religious reasons, hosts a 3.3-ton wooden crucifix and the ossuary.

And then...

From the Alpine farm you can climb up to Monte Tenchia, to the Zoufplan lakes and to the panoramic Cimon di Crasulina, before following for a long stretch, along CAI trails, the whole Tarondon – Pezzacucco – Crostis hogback. In Cercivento, before taking the road leading to the production unit, you can visit the "farie di Checo", a factory dating back to the 15th century, which was refurbished in 1966 after a flood. Inside, the entire iron processing cycle is perfectly reconstructed, with all the hydraulic contraptions working, the blacksmith's tools and instruments, and an exhibition of products.

Nearby, you can visit Sutrio, a characteristic Carnic village with a well-refurbished old centre, with the typical stone houses fronting onto paved lanes framing the hamlet. Some refined carvers' and sculptors' workshops can be found here. The Ethnographic and Historiographic Museum "Gaudenzio Straulino Teno", with the Holy Nativity Representation, is undoubtedly worthy: this is a wooden work reproducing the details of the habits and customs of the village. The Pieve di Ognissanti lies on the namesake hill and was built in the early 19th century by the architect Francesco Schiavi from Tolmezzo, with the old, 17th-century belfry of a previous church. Some digging inside the hill's southern walls brought to light some fragments of capitals and iron anchoring rings.
