The structure of this Alpine farm is a rare example of agri-pastoral architecture, characterized by a wooden polygonal jutting part dominating the entrance porch. The spectacular Stretta di Fleòns, the ravine from which the Degano torrent flows out is not far from here. In Forni Avoltri the "Cemùot chi erin" (How we were) ethnographic collection, where the tools of traditional crafts and trades are displayed and rooms and settings from the 19th century to the second world war are reproduced is worth a visit. You can visit the mines on Monte Avanza. While the Gracco “banned wood” – a wildlife sanctuary – and the Bordaglia lake are two other marvellous locations that can't be missed.

Forni Avoltri (Ud)
From Forni Avoltri, heading to Sappada, just after the bridge on the Degano torrent, turn right on a paved road, leave Pierabech behind, and continue to the marble quarry. From there you can walk on along a dirt road that passes by the mineral springs of the Goccia di Carnia water, which are in the Stretta di Fleòns gorge, then you can climb up to the pastures and to the Alpine farm.

And then...
From the Fleons di Sotto Alpine farm, along a trail, you can climb up all the namesake valley up to Passo Sesis, descend to the P. F. Calvi shelter and from here, on a road, reach the springs of the Piave river, then from here arrive to Cima Sappada or close the ring back to Pierabech, near Forni Avoltri.
If, instead, you continue eastward, you climb up the whole Sissanis Valley to Quota Pascoli, then down to the Bordaglia di Sopra farm, and from there to the gorgeous namesake small lake nearby. You can also descend to Bordaglia Bassa and from here, on a dirt road, reach the marble quarry of Pierabech.
