Ielma di Sotto

As in a few other dairy huts of the region, in Ielma di Sotto the traditional milk-processing cauldron support, called "musse", has been preserved. The feet of the Colle di San Pietro, above the hollow where the Alpine farm lies, are dominated by larches, spruces and a few beeches. Why not looking for raspberries in the brushwood for a sweet, different snack?

And then...

continuing left at the fork not far from the hut, after around one kilometre, you reach the San Giacomo hut; continuing straight on you climb, with short hairpin bends, up to the Ielma di Sopra hut nearby, and from here to the Pieltinis farm.

In Sauris, an old village with houses and cottages built with the "Blockbau" technique (overlapping logs with joined notched corners) with roofs covered with wood shingles, you can visit the ethnographic centre "Haus van der Zahre" and its exhibition "La storia riemersa - Cimeli di guerra / Khriekhgedeinkhn" (The re-emerged history - War memorabilia), in addition to records of the Saurano German dialect, as well as the Historiographic Centre – S. Osvaldo Museum, which depicts everyday life through seven centuries. You can shop at numerous craft workshops and at the factories where the famous local foodstuffs, such as the PGI raw ham, the "speck", and the craft beer, are produced. The namesake lake, with the hydroelectric dam, is breath-taking. A rich fauna lives in the surrounding woods: roe deer, deer, chamois, martens, skunks, beech martens, squirrels, dormice, voles, black grouses and capercaillies, various diurnal and nocturnal raptors and, recently, also lynxes and brown bears.

In the Pesarina valley, in the centre of Pesariis (in the municipality of Prato Carnico), the village of clocks, where the factory of the Solari brothers was founded, an exhibition has been set up which shows clocks and two monumental sundials representing the evolution of the local industry. Here you can also visit Casa Bruseschi: a typical Carnic aristocratic residence from the 17th-18th centuries with period furniture and tools on display.
