Ramaz

The pasture is active in the first and last grazing weeks; in the mid-weeks the activity moves to the Lodin Alta pasture. Nearby is Stua di Ramaz, a place north of the gorge of the Chiarsò brook, which owes its name to the great levee ("stua" = sluice) built to facilitate the descent downstream of timber. When the number of trunks was sufficient, the "stua" was suddenly opened and they were carried down by the power of water.

And then...

From the dairy hut you can reach the Cason di Lanza pass and drive on along the road leading to Pontebba. Or follow the CAI trail no. 454 up to the Fabiani shelter.

Nearby, close to Chiaulis and Salino, you can see the spectacular waterfalls and, going up the Chiarsò torrent, you can walk along the Forra di Las Callas gorge.

In Paularo some palaces are worth seeing, such as Palazzo Valesio-Calice (1591), Palazzo Calice-Screm-Gerometta (16th century, the prototype of Carnic houses), Palazzo Fabiani-Linussio (17th century, Linussio's abode, where Giosuè Carducci slept), Palazzo della Canonica (1674), Casa Tarussio (Côrt di Tarùsc) (17th century, a typical traditional dwelling with wooden works by Sbrizzai and other carvers), Palazzo Morocutti (1631), and the Mozartina, a small music museum with a refined collection of old instruments. The several buildings of worship are of remarkable historical and artistic value:

the parish church of (patron saints) Vito, Modesto e Crescenzia (1750), frescoed with an absolute masterpiece by painter Antonio Schiavi and with a wonderful crucifix, the baptistery from the 16th century and the organ dated 1764;

the church of Santa Maria Maggiore (1300) with a splendid wooden altar of 1522;

the church of San Giovanni Battista (1400);

the church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria Martire (1400) with an ancient medieval belfry and a 17th-century altar;

the deconsecrated church of Sant'Antonio (1674);
the Cappella dei santi Fabiano e Sebastiano (1688);

the church of San Pietro (1715), with a precious painting depicting San Pietro attributed to Nicola Grassi;

The Sacello di Santa Maria di Loreto (1745), a rare example of architecture with an octagonal base;

The Santuario di Maria SS. Ausiliatrice del Monte Castoia (1870) with frescoes by Giacomo Monai from Nimis and the legendary stone with the image of the Madonna with Child Jesus engraved on it.

In Piazza Julia, you can see the monument built by Giobatta Segalla honouring all Fallen and Missing, both soldiers and civilians, from Paularo in the wars of 1911/1912 - 1935/1936 - 1940/1945.

The relics of a Celtic necropolis have lately been found in Misincinis.

If you reach Pontebba, instead, you can visit the parish church to admire the Flügelaltar, a wooden altar dated 1517, the town hall with its awesome façade, its frescoes and the tombstone of "Severilla", dating back to the Roman era. The village boasts the bridge on the Pontebbana torrent, the ancient boundary between Pontafel and Pontebba (between Austria and the Venetian Republic). Its current structure was rebuilt in the 50s, after the previous one had crumbled. With the end of the Great War it lost its function because the border was moved to Coccau. In Piazza Garibaldi, a monument by the sculptor Max Piccini was erected in 1969 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of composer Arturo Zardini, known for “Stelutis alpinis”. Strolling around the village streets you can also see Casa Micossi (18th century), Gaspero Rizzi's House (17th century), Casa Brunetti Bonfioli de' Cavalcabò (19th century), Casa Schiavi (19th century), and Casa Micossi Nassimbeni (19th century).
