During WWI the hut was the military logistics centre of the valley. Near the farm a small church commemorates the fallen of the Gemona Battalion; there are also the relics of military shelters and a cavern known by the name of "Compagnia dei Briganti".

From the Dogna village, you cross the Fella river and climb up the whole Dogna valley; after leaving behind the small hamlets of the valley and after some hairpin bends, you reach the Plan dei Spadovai Alpine farm, which lies adjacent to the road.

From that Alpine farm you can climb to Sella Sompodogna, up to the namesake farm, and you can also climb further on to the Fratelli Grego shelter.
Before the Dogna valley, you can visit the territorial museum in Dogna, with an itinerary showing the palaeontological, historical, and ethnographic peculiarities of this area, and where a slab of rock with the footprints of a phytosaur of the Triassic is kept.
