Pozof (Marmoreana)

The renovation of the Alpine farm buildings by their owners included the restoration of the old hut, which bears witness to the everyday life once led on Alpine pastures. In the pools of the farm you can find the grass snake, the Alpine newt, the common frog and the dragonfly. Below the farm you descend along an Alpine pasture rich in nettles, ferns, green alder shrubs, together with Saint John's-wort, yarrow, golden rod, goat's beard, white butterbur, burdock, daisies, Alpine sage and butterwort.

Ovaro (Ud)

From Sutrio you climb to Sella dello Zoncolan (1,730 m) and then descend along the road leading to Ovaro. After narrow tunnels you turn right on a paved road and in a short while reach the car park of the Pozof Alpine farm. You can also reach the fork toward Malga Pozof from Ovaro, through the Liariis hamlet, on a steep but well-paved road. In summer, the cable car that from Ravascletto leads directly to Monte Zoncolan operates. From there you can walk up to the Alpine pasture.

And then...

From the Sella dello Zoncolan saddle, following a dirt road on the Eastern side of Monte Arvenis, you can visit the Tamai, Agareit, and Meleit huts.

Before heading uphill, you can visit Sutrio, a characteristic Carnic village with a well-refurbished old centre, with the typical stone houses fronting onto paved lanes framing the old centre. Some refined carvers' and sculptors' workshops can be found here. The Pieve di Ognissanti stands on the namesake hill and was built in the early 19th century by the architect Francesco Schiavi from Tolmezzo, with the old 17th century belfry of a previous church. Some excavations within the hill's southern walls brought to light some fragments of capitals and iron anchoring rings.

Ravascletto, an important summer and winter tourist resort, has some valuable places of worship, such as the church of San Giovanni in Campivolo, with a painting depicting Saint John the Evangelist by Ignaz Baldauf, a German painter of the 18th century, the parish church of Zovello (14th century) and the parish church of San Matteo Apostolo of 1718.

On the other side, in Ovaro – in Cludinico to be precise – before climbing up the mountains, you can visit the "Museo Ex Miniera di Carbone" and the "Ex Miniera Creta d'Oro", two museums of the former local mines, which bear evidence to the mining activity at the turn of last century. In Aplis, near Ovaro, the "Museo del Legno e della Segheria Veneziana", (Venetian sawmill museum), has been opened to the public. The stone mill of Baus and the Namontet necropolis are worth a visit. In the hamlet of Mione you can find the house of a hundred windows and aristocratic mansions in Luint.
