Tratten

The pastures and structures of Malga Auernig (1,609 m) are part of the Tratten Alpine farm facility. In the areas bordering the Pramollo pass we can observe the magnificent Wulfenia carinthiaca, a protected plant species that can be seen from late June to early July. It was discovered in 1779 by Baron Franz Xaver von Wulfen and is believed to date back to the Cenozoic; it is found in very few areas (border between Albania and Montenegro, on the Himalaya and in Anatolia, together with similar species) and, because of its rarity, is a protected species.

And then...

From the farm you can reach the Passo Pramollo and enter Austria. From the pass, keeping on the Italian side, you can also reach the Auernig hut and the For – Cerchio – Biffilb grazing facility (CAI trail no. 504).

Pontebba, where the customs house was, is worth a visit to its parish church to admire the Flügelaltar, a wooden altar dated 1517, to the town hall with the awesome façade, and with frescoes and Severilla's gravestone, dating back to the Roman period, inside its halls. Strolling around the village you can see other buildings of particular historic significance, such as Casa Micossi (18th century), Gaspero Rizzi's House (17th century), Casa Brunetti Bonfioli de' Cavalcabò (19th century), Casa Schiavi (19th century), and Casa Micossi Nassimbeni (19th century). The village boasts the bridge on the Pontebbana torrent, which used to mark the boundary between Pontafel and Pontebba (between Austria and the Republic of Venice). Its current structure was rebuilt in the 50s, following the collapse of the previous construction, but the first written mention of its existence is dated 1442. Over the years, princes, kings and celebrities crossed it, e.g. Giosuè Carducci in 1885. With the end of the Great War and the transfer of the border to Coccau, it lost its original function. In Piazza Garibaldi a monument marking the centenary of the birth of composer Arturo Zardini, the author of “Stelutis alpinis”, was erected in 1969 by the sculptor Max Piccini.
